Peter Sellers, allegedly, kept rewriting his scenes to make them play less comedically. There is plenty of anecdotal evidence of the cast thinking Casino Royale was going to be a straight up spy film rather than a spoof/pastiche/parody. So this exercise was a chance to learn a bit more about it and give it another watch.
